BackDear Campers, Parents, Staff and Alumni,
This is the hardest thing we have ever had to do. We were so excited to see everyone at Camp this summer. It’s with a heavy heart that we have to cancel our programs for our summer 2020 season. There is too much uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 for all of us to confidently operate a safe and high-quality camp this summer.
We care deeply about our Camp community and won’t risk having them in an environment where the chances for a probable outbreak are so high. We have approached having Camp from every possible scenario. It is clear that any modified program we could offer at Camp W*K this summer would not resemble the one that we have been looking forward to all year.
Summer at Camp W*K means choice, kids being independent to design their days and being closely connected with everyone in the community. Our tight-knit Camp family is about high fives, side hugs and being close. With social distancing limitations and cohort restrictions, none of this will be possible. We don’t want to have a summer that requires us to limit or live in fear.
We know that this decision will come with great disappointment for everyone. We are disappointed too. We have all been excited about being together at Camp. We believe we will work through this, and next summer we will be back on the shores of Elisha’s Pond to create the lifelong memories, friendships, and experiences.
We realize our news may leave you with a pit in your stomach and lots of questions. We have set up an FAQ page to answer your questions and encourage you to call us.
The spirit of Camp Wingate*Kirkland never stops…and we are not waiting for 2021 to be our next time together. We will continue to provide online programming, and, when appropriate, bring our community together in-person. All of us know that there are no substitutes for the real thing, and that online events are meant to keep us all connected. Please join us Saturday night for campfire at 8:00 PM EDT on Zoom.
