Criteria for Success
The Camp W*K community strives to create a friendly and enjoyable environment that allows our members to be safe and experience growth. Health and safety are our top priorities and are at the center of everything we do.
All campers need to be able to do the following at a level that is appropriate for their age and development:
- Follow a varied individual schedule moving independently from activity to activity.
- Participate in a group living environment inside the bunk in a positive and cooperative manner that displays tolerance and respect for others.
- Use free time constructively and independently.
- Demonstrate age-appropriate social and emotional skills in managing personal boundaries, relationships, communication, stress, and conflict.
- Participate fully in all scheduled activities and camp programming including swim instruction in our freshwater pond (we do not have a pool).
- Live in an unplugged setting with no personal electronics (ie. cell phones, smart watches, tablets, gaming devices, computers).
- Spend the majority of the day outdoors with varying weather conditions, insects, animals, grass, sand, and mud.
- Independently function in a community without one-on-one support.
- Advocate for self and concerns verbally to others using appropriate communication.
- Manage the sensory stimulation of large, energetic group environments such as the dining hall during meals, planning session, evening forum and evening activity.
- Refrain from unsafe and/or harmful behaviors toward self and others (including, but not limited to, physical harm and self-harm).
- Engage in behaviors that contribute to the positive community and spirit of Camp Wingate*Kirkland.
