Philosophy

Camp Wingate*Kirkland is a safe place where campers can try new things without the social pressures of what’s considered cool or not cool! We are a traditional camp in many ways, staying true to old fashioned values. And like it was over 60 years ago – W*K is not a “plugged in” camp.

What Makes Us Different?

Some of our new traditions have grown from our belief that children learn better and are more enthusiastic when they get to choose what they learn.

Our Daily Choice program is one of the most unique ideas anywhere in camping today, and we offer a full range of traditional camp activities and some zany stuff like Archery Tag, How To Be a Gentleman, Tennis Baseball, Zombie Hunters, Balloon Animal Hospital, How to Train a Dragon, and Ethical Dilemmas.

The Camp Wingate*Kirkland Program is Designed to Teach Campers to:

  • Recognize that they have responsibility for themselves and those around them.
  • Accept that they are accountable for their actions and the consequences for inappropriate behaviors.
  • Learn to make choices, which are good for themselves and others, and to take responsibility for the choices that they make.
  • Respect oneself and others in spite of differences.
  • Develop new skills and be exposed to new opportunities.
  • Have fun!

Community

Everyone feels supported and empowered at W*K, part of a community that fosters respect for everybody, regardless of their differences.

See what our campers have to say about the W*K Community!

Life Skills

While enjoying camp activities, campers also develop great life skills. It’s one of the many reasons why people come back year after year…it just feels good to be here.
