Camp Wingate Kirkland was founded in 1957 by the Wolfson family, and is now under the leadership of its owners and directors, Sandy and Will Rubenstein.
Will was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. He spent 13 summers at camp. He graduated with a BA in Journalism from Ithaca College. For the past five years, he has worked full-time as a camping professional.
Sandy spent her youth in Pennsylvania. She grew up in Bala Cynwyd and went to camp for 10 years. She was a camper, CIT, counselor and worked part-time in the winter office. She graduated with a BA in Film Studies from Ithaca College. In addition to being co-director of Camp Wingate Kirkland, she also works as a freelance graphic designer.
Wingate Kirkland has over 50 staff members, and our counselor return rate from year to year is 75 percent. Approximately half of our staff grew up at WK as campers. This large number of "home-grown" staff plays a key role in maintaining the warmth and spirit of the WK community.

Of course, new counselors are equally important for their new energy and ideas. We recruit from the best colleges and universities in the United States and are meticulous in our hiring practices -- beginning with face-to-face interviews -- exceeding all ACA and state recommended standards of due diligence. As a result, Wingate Kirkland counselors are uniformly dedicated, qualified and multi-talented people whose first priority is the safety and well being of children. |
