Arrival and Learning
"Camp is like nothing I've experienced. I cannot understand my connection that I now feel for this haven. When I first arrived, I was rather nervous, knowing a few people and wondering what the summer would bring. I was especially wary due to the visible differences from my own camp which I also greatly enjoyed. Now as I look back, I can't think of many places that I have felt so accepted among people who had been together for so long. It was wonderful. Camp WK requires a lot of learning -- learning about why WK is different from anywhere else. I did not have any knowledge of this learning process when I filled out the application. All I was told by my friend Jon was: "I think you'll like it." Great, that was a lot of information, but that was all that I needed and should have been told. One should learn for themselves what WK means, you can't explain what it is all about in words. It is kind of like four square, you have to step in and play and get knocked out to really learn the rules."

The Kids
"You must be prepared to always deal with the kids, because so many of them think you're awesome. You need to be willing to deal with them being there constantly. It is a very intimate community and one must be prepared for this."

Programming
"The format of the planning session is excellent. It makes kids more interested in what they are doing, it has them choose what they want to do. That is very important. It also allows for a large amount of close attention. This is unique. I am sitting at my desk now and when I look to my left I see a picture of myself sitting on my bench with two of my "regulars", Scott and Paul. This is what the programming at WK is all about. Getting attached and having it be okay to be attached."

Final Thoughts
"I have so much to say but I don't have the time right now, but I can say this: WK is about magic, and I haven't figured out how it works quite yet, considering I am a first year counselor, but I know it is there and I was a part of it, which is one of the best feelings I have ever had."
